Yarn Details
Yarn Details

Our chunky yarn is 100% handmade. It is hand-spun from 100 % extra fine merino wool 18,5 microns from Italy. It is the best and premium merino quality in a market known for its extra softness and silkiness.

It is a single ply, popular roving type yarn with a slight twist. Merino yarn goes through all necessary stages from fiber preparation to a spinning on a spinning wheel and washing to make it lightly felted. This helps to fix the form of the yarn and get smooth textured surface with a unique look and soft feel. It allows knitwear to be more practical, prevents pilling and shedding. It is easier to knit with lightly felted yarn than with unfelted wool.

Merino Wool Origin and Certifications
  • Extra fine merino wool tops used to the production of our yarn come from both Australia and South America and are carefully selected in Italian factory to ensure constant quality over time.
  • Additionally, being of animal origin, the extra fine Merino wool top is biodegradable and therefore environmentally friendly.
  • All lots are MULESING FREE. The dyeing complies with Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and is done in a dyeinghouse in Italy which is GOTS 5.0 and GRS certified.

  • 20-25 mm (US 36 - US 50) - for scarves, snoods, blankets and loose knitting.
How much yarn do you need?

  • Hats & Beanies – 200 grams usually for standard beanie with turn-up brim or pompom, 250-300 grams for larger or men's size beanie with turned-up brim and pompom, 350-400 grams for extra-large hat with turned-up brim and large pompom
  • Snoods - 200 grams for a small circle snood, 400 grams for infinity scarf/ cowl
  • Scarves – 400 grams make a scarf approx. 18x150cm, 600-800 grams for a large long scarf, 1 kg for a super large long scarf
  • Sweaters – 1-2 kg
  • Cardigans – 1,4 - 2 kg (1-1,2 kg for short cardigan with 3/4 sleeves)
Blankets recommendations:

1 kg makes approx. 80x115 cm (30x45 inches). Knit blanket loosely (for blankets we recommend 20 mm circular needles) to get the best result. The quantity is approximate and can differ because of density and blanket design.

  • 60x100 cm (24x40 inches) - 800 grams
  • 80x100 cm (32x40 inches) - 1 kg
  • 75x160 cm (30x63 inches) - 1,6 kg
  • 110x140 cm (43x55 inches) -2 kg
  • 127x152 cm (50'x60 inches) - 2,6 kg
  • 127x177 cm (50x70 inches) - 3 kg
  • 140x210 cm (55x83 inches) - 3,8 kg
  • 142 cm x 243 cm (56x96 inches) - 4,4 kg
Care
  • Tender hand wash (cool water, no agitation, lay flat to dry) is possible for small items (beanie, scarf, cowl).
  • Specialized dry cleaning once a season is recommended for big pieces (sweater, blanket).
  • Washing machine is also possible (using cold water only, delicate/wool cycle, without agitation, air dry only). But note that washing in a machine will make yarn thinner, harder to touch, some softness will be lost.
