Knitting pattern for knitting a super chunky knit cardigan using thick jumbo weight yarn. The cardigan features cropped length, open front, loose to oversized fit, casual trendy look and 3/4 sleeves. Ideal for spring or autumn season! Spend an exiting day in a chunky knitting process and enjoy chunky knitwear! The thickness of a cardigan should be approximately 3 cm.

  • Level - Intermediate.
  • Stitches and skills required - Long-tail cast on, garter stitch, knitting garter stitch in the round, horizontal invisible seam, magic loop knitting technique on circular needles, picking up the stitches for the sleeves, cast off, connecting the chunky yarn, weaving the ends.
  • Cardigan construction: The cardigan is knitted in one piece with invisible shoulder seems and sleeves knitted on a round from the armholes.
  • Time to finish - approx. 8-12 hours
  • The pattern is written in 3 sizes S (M, L).

What you need (not included)
  • Yarn - approx. 1,5 kg (1,6 kg: 1,8 kg) of a jumbo weight yarn (weight yarn #7/ 10-12m per 100g/ 1-13 yards per 3,5 oz./ the thickness of a yarn is approx. 1-1,5 cm). Any other jumbo weight yarn that meets gauge can be used. 1 stitch is approx. 2,5-3 cm wide. Yarn variants - MERINO MAXI by Knit Design Studio, Big Loop Yarn by Loopy Mango. The cardigan on a photo is knitted from a jumbo weight yarn Merino Maxi by Knit Design Studio (100 grams / 12 meters), color Evening. The model wears size M. 
  • Knitting needles - 1 pair of 20 mm (US 35) circular knitting needles (if you knit loosely usually) or 1 pair of 25 mm (US 50) circular knitting needles (if you knit tightly) in a length 100-120 cm/40-47".
  • Tapestry needle and felting needle to connect yarn and weave the ends.

Note: For the sleeves you will need to use a magic loop technique if using circular needles 100-120 cm/40-47". To avoid this, you may use circular needles 50-60 cm/20-24" for sleeves.
