The knit hat is very thick, warm, soft, and silky to the touch, with a medium pom-pom adding a playful touch. Easy for beginners, this DIY kit will make an excellent gift for yourself or a loved one.

  • Skill level - Beginner friendly / Easy (Cast on, cast off, knit stitches, easy decrease, knitting in the round are necessary to know)
  • Time to finish - approx. 2 hours
  • The beanie is knitted in a round on a circular knitting needles, without seams.
Kit contents:
  • Yarn - 250-300 grams (depending on a size) of Merino Maxi yarn in two colors
  • Needles (optional) - 1 pair of 20 mm (US 36) circular knitting needles
  • Finishing kit - tapestry and felting needles to hide the ends
  • 1 beanie pattern in English (for 2 sizes)

Yarn Details

This knitting kit is made with our Merino Maxi yarn. Hand spun from a super soft merino wool roving, slightly felted for stability, this jumbo yarn knits up quickly and is ideal for creating chunky pieces. Perfect for chunky knitted beanies, cowls and scarves, sweaters and cardigans, blankets and many other interior design items. Can be used for creative projects in chunky weaving and tapestry.

Yarn Characteristics
  • Fiber - 100% extra-fine merino wool 18,5 microns (Italy)
  • Meterage - 30-36 m per 300 grams /33-40 yards per 10,5 oz.
  • Weight category - Jumbo Yarn 7
  • Thickness of the yarn - 1-1,5 cm. Slightly irregular thickness may occur as our jumbo knitting yarn was totally handmade.
  • Knitting needles recommended - 20 mm - 30 mm
  • Crochet hooks recommended - 15 mm - 30 mm
  • Average tension - 3 stitches + 5 rows / 4 inches (ca. 10 cm). One stitch = approximately 3 cm.
Yarn Details

Our jumbo yarn is 100% handmade. It is hand-spun from 100% extra fine merino wool 18,5 microns from Italy. It is the best and premium merino quality in a market known for its extra softness and silkiness. It is a single ply, popular roving type yarn with a slight twist. Merino yarn goes through all necessary stages from fiber preparation to a spinning on a spinning wheel and washing to make lightly felted. This helps to fix the form of the yarn and get smooth textured surface with a unique look and soft feel. It allows knitwear to be more practical, prevents pilling and shedding. It is easier to knit with lightly felted yarn than with unfelted wool.

Merino Wool Origin and Certifications
  • Extra fine merino wool tops used to the production of our yarn come from both Australia and South America and are carefully selected in Italian factory to ensure constant quality over time.
  • Additionally, being of animal origin, the extra fine Merino wool top is biodegradable and therefore environmentally friendly.
  • All lots are MULESING FREE. The dyeing complies with Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and is done in a dyeinghouse in Italy which is GOTS 5.0 and GRS certified.

  • Bigger size (with head circumference 60-62 cm) is designed for larger heads, curly hair or for men.

The diameter of a pompom is approx. 10 cm / 4".

Care
  • Gentle hand wash (with a cool water, without any agitation, lay flat to dry).
  • Washing machine is also possible (using cold water only, delicate/wool cycle, without agitation, air dry only). But note that washing in a machine will make yarn a little thinner, harder to touch, some softness will be lost. ​
