Piuma by DHG is a soft and lightweight bulky yarn made in Italy from 100% extra-fine merino wool.

Its lightly twisted roving structure preserves the natural softness and loft of merino wool while giving the yarn a beautifully soft, slightly fuzzy texture. As you knit or crochet, Piuma blooms and gains volume, creating warm and cozy fabric without feeling overly heavy.

This bulky merino wool yarn is a lovely choice for wearable chunky knits, including beanies, scarves, sweaters, cardigans and vests. It can also be used for crochet, weaving and other fiber projects.

  • Piuma is a premium roving-style yarn produced in Italy by DHG – Dyeing House Gallery.
  • Made from pure extra-fine merino wool, it has a soft, slightly fuzzy texture and a light, airy feel. The fibers are only slightly twisted, allowing the yarn to retain the natural loft and softness of merino wool while remaining compact enough to work comfortably with knitting needles or a crochet hook.
  • One of Piuma's special characteristics is the way it blooms as you work with it. The yarn becomes fuller and fluffier, giving finished pieces a rich, cozy texture while keeping them surprisingly lightweight.

Piuma can be worked with fairly large knitting needles and crochet hooks.

Before Starting Your Project

Piuma is a lightly twisted pure wool roving and naturally blooms after knitting and washing. This is part of its character and gives finished pieces their soft, full texture.

For garments, lace or very open stitches, we recommend knitting a small swatch and washing it before calculating final measurements.

Care
  • Gentle hand wash in cold water without agitation.
  • Do not wring or twist. Gently remove excess water and lay flat to dry.
  • Because Piuma is a lightly twisted pure wool roving, the fibers may close up slightly after washing. This is a natural characteristic of this type of yarn and is not felting.
  • We strongly recommend washing a small gauge swatch before starting a garment, especially when using large needles or loose, open stitches.
  • Dry cleaning may also be used, particularly for larger or very loosely knitted pieces.
