Description

Chunky knit cropped cardigan hand knitted from soft extra-fine merino wool for a bold, cozy and modern handmade layer. This cropped cardigan has a lightly oversized boxy fit, dropped shoulders and an open front, making it easy to wear over simple tops, dresses or high-waisted jeans.

The cardigan is made from our hand-spun chunky merino wool yarn with a lightly felted surface. This gives the yarn a smoother texture, helps it hold its shape better and makes the cardigan more practical to wear than untreated roving wool. The thick stitches create a sculptural chunky knit look, while the cropped length keeps the silhouette lighter and easier to style.

This style works well as a statement cardigan for spring, autumn, cool summer evenings or layered winter outfits. It is shorter and more playful than our long oversized cardigans, but still has the same soft merino wool feel and visible handmade texture.

Yarn Details

Our chunky yarn is 100% handmade. It is hand-spun from 100% extra fine merino wool 18,5 microns from Italy. It is the best and premium merino quality in a market known for its extra softness and silkiness. It is a single ply, popular roving type yarn with a slight twist. Merino yarn goes through all necessary stages from fiber preparation to a spinning on a spinning wheel and washing to make lightly felted. This helps to fix the form of the yarn and get smooth textured surface with a unique look and soft feel. It allows knitwear to be more practical, helps reduce pilling and shedding.

Merino Wool Origin and Certifications
  • Extra fine merino wool tops used to the production of our wool come from both Australia and South America and are carefully selected in Italian factory to ensure constant quality over time.
  • Additionally, being of animal origin, the extra fine Merino wool top is biodegradable and therefore environmentally friendly.
  • All lots are MULESING FREE. The dyeing complies with Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and is done in a dyeinghouse in Italy which is GOTS 5.0 and GRS certified.

Care
  • Professional dry cleaning once a season is recommended.
  • For everyday care, gently air the cardigan after wearing and store it folded, not hanging, to help keep its shape.
  • A fabric shaver may be used gently to refresh the surface if light pilling appears with wear. This is normal for soft natural merino wool, especially in areas of friction such as the sleeves, sides and underarms.
  • Gentle hand washing in cool water is possible if needed. Do not rub, twist or agitate the cardigan. Lay flat to dry. Please note that chunky wool becomes heavy when wet.
  • Machine washing is possible only on a very gentle wool cycle in cool water, but it may change the original look and feel of the yarn. The stitches may become more compact, and the cardigan may lose some of its soft chunky volume. For best results, professional dry cleaning or gentle hand washing is recommended.
